| newly-completed needlework on the hall table |
As was predicted in one of my early January blog posts, that month came to an end.
Of course it did, you are thinking to yourself.
January came to Beloved and me while we were battling the cold virus that has people coughing for weeks. But at least we have, thus far, been spared the flu.
January also continued with the bitterly cold weather here in northeast Florida -- weather Beloved and I were not expecting since we are newbies here. Have you ever seen a frost-bitten palm tree? I hadn't either, but now I know what they look like. Sad.
And the cloudiness. Oh my. I knew in my head that Florida would not have as many sunshine days as Colorado because of the amount of rainfall, but my psyche needs light. January around here was a little low with that requirement.
However, today is the first of February!!! I greet it with a needlework project completed earlier this week from this delightful book by Nancy Halvorsen... look closely and you'll see the piece I was copying.
I've been writing lately about the importance of taking time out for ourselves to do whatever (legal and moral) activities help us to breathe easier and cause the muscles to release their tension. The purchase of this book is the result of one day when I just needed to put it all down ("it" being whatever was blundering my thoughts that day with unhappiness). I told Beloved I needed to 'make an emergency trip to the quilt store.'
We've been married 47 years and the man knows me well. He just nodded, kissed me, and sent me off with "go buy something." Don't you know those words were music to my ears!!
Anyway, the book was purchased, fabric was found, and I busied myself in the sewing area (which is not officially a sewing room), forgetting all the gobbled goop that's been on my mind.
The patterns in the book were too large for the desk-top quilt stand I wanted to use for the display of this project, so I had to free-hand draw the heart and bird parts. The letters F, E, and B were useable as printed. (yay!)
With the exception of tacking down the border/binding on the backside, all the sewing was done on my Pfaff. Oh yes, also I need to give a tip-of-the-hat to Wonder Under, the adhesive product that holds the cut-out pieces to the white fabric background with the help of a hot iron.

| another small pleasure |
After the project was completed and placed on the hall table, I dutifully cleaned up my sewing area and sat down with a celebratory cup of decaf coffee.
It's February. Things are a-lookin' up!
A merry heart does good, like medicine.
